Sydney companies win the DXC SpringBoard competition for the insurance sector.

Sydney-based Mapcite and Guroos were the winners of DXC Technology’s SpringBoard competition for late-stage startups addressing the insurance sector.

Mapcite has developed a risk pricing, assessment and accumulations management platform to provide brokers and underwriters with real-time map visibility into their policy accumulations, perils risk data and claims history.

Guroos has developed a system for creating, distributing and measuring dynamic personalised interactive videos as a way of extending customer communication management platforms.

Twenty-nine startups entered the competition, and 12 were shortlisted for the final round of judging. Each winner received a $4000 cash prize plus the opportunity to partner with IT services giant DXC Technology.

The competition was run in collaboration with Sydney-based fintech hub Stone & Chalk, so it’s probably not surprising that both winners were based in Sydney. Stone & Chalk is in the process of expanding into Melbourne, however, and is looking for “residents” in that city .

“The SpringBoard competition has been very well received, and our commitment to working with startups has left a great impression on the community,” said DXC Technology managing director, Australia & New Zealand Seelan Nayagam,

“Every competition entry demonstrated the potential innovation that can be achieved in the insurance sector – a clear message that there is room to leverage new technologies and thinking to address the macro drivers shaping the insurance industry.”

DXC Technology was formed last year by the merger of CSC and HPE’s enterprise services business.
